The makeup industry has grown in leaps and bounds and girls around the world are spoilt for choice now more than ever. Picking the right shade of lipstick is usually a matter of trial and error for most, but if you are not keen on the hassle, here are a few tips on how to pick the right one.

Working with your skin tone
Skin tone plays a part when it comes to the color of almost everything that you wear, from your makeup and clothes to your hairstyle and shoes. Lipstick will work in much the same way, and when search for the right shade you want something to complement your color. For fair skin, shades of pink are great, especially those that are a similar color to your lips. For olive skin tones, bronzes and beiges work best, again especially those that have a similar color to your lips. For darker tones, burgundy, mauve and reds are perfect for complementing you.

Your unique lips
Women differ in the sizes of their lips and while some may want their lips to stand out, others may want a more subdued look. Striking colors like bright reds and bold blacks will make your lips stand out, while more neutral colors will give you’re a natural look. This comes in handy when it comes time to choose a shade for specific occasions.

Altering the rest of your makeup
Your makeup has to work together to enhance your features. If you are wearing a striking shade of lipstick then play down your blush, eye shadow and eyeliner. If everything is over the top you will end up looking like a drama queen. Makeup is about taking what you have and accentuating it, not about painting on a whole new face. Also if you are using lip liner then make sure it matches the shade of your lipstick.
